Match reports 8th June

The first team game at Old Albanians was called off mid -morning but Ickleford's other two teams had impressive wins.

Ickleford 2nds finally got their first win after narrow defeats in the last 2 weeks winning by 8 runs against Hertford 3rds.
In wet conditions Ickleford lost their 5th toss in a row and unsurprisingly were put into bat and they were soon in trouble at 10-4. Skipper Sam Howard started the rescue act with 32 and lower order runs got the score up to a meagre 113 in an innings containing 5 ducks.
Hertford started briskly and at 58-3 off just 14 overs they looked to be racing to the target. Scot Crouch then bowled a miserly spell of 3-13 from his 9 overs, Michael Day took 2 wickets & Duncan Jenner after a rare failure with the bat finished Hertford off with 2-15 as they were bowled out for 103 giving Ickleford a thrilling 8 run victory.

The third team had an excellent victory over Southgate Compton who were top of the table before this game. Ickleford restricted Southgate Compton to 154-9 in their 38 overs. Nick Webb was very economical but the unexpected bowling hero was Ben Whelan who does not normally bowl but took 4 wickets.
Whelan then hit a very useful 46 to put Ickleford on the road to their target He was well supported by Russell Dermont before skipper Dave Pursey hit an unbeaten 50 to see Ickleford home by 7 wickets.
